Mission & Vision

To preserve and advance our families commitment to our community as a provider of high quality products and services to our customers that emphasize family, food, and education.

Our Story

Since 1927, our farm has been a well-known landmark in the Kanawha Valley, and our family has been an active part of the community. Our family roots began in Buffalo with Veto and Nellie Gritt’s establishment of our current farm operation. Today, we continue to thrive with our family’s fourth generation growing up on the farm. We have changed, evolved, and adapted our agribusiness to serve the needs of our local and regional customers. Gone are the days of delivering eggs in the C10 to the front doors of Buffalo before greenhouses and our first farm stand. Many improvements have been made to our farm, and we continue extensive planning for the future of the farm and retail market.

The diversity of our business model, from our multitude of crops, companion products, marketing strategies, and support of other local farms has helped us weather many storms and the volatility of agricultural income. Pick Your Own, Agritourism, and our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) all are strengths that make us unique and lively. Our relationships with growers and suppliers are truly local, most within a 50-mile radius.

As a family, we are proud of our contributions to the community of Buffalo as we serve as stewards of the land, provide employment opportunities on our farm and in our retail locations, and grow and provide farm-fresh products. The combined 400 acres of land we farm provide beauty and open space in Buffalo, as well as an opportunity to provide family in our community with healthy food options. Over 80 individuals are employed over the course of a year, allowing us to contribute to the growth of our local economy. As a long-standing employer in our community, we have had the opportunity to ‘raise’ many teenagers who come back after further education and raising families to say how valuable their experience at Gritt’s was to their life. We have had the pleasure of having multiple generations of families be a part of our farm, too.
